It's ALWAYS 3K. Good miata? 3k. Bad Miata? 3k.

That was my thought.

My mom has been teasing me with possibly helping me buy one. I really, really want one soon to have to play with this summer. She seems to think this price is high, but I didn't think it was THAT high. I'd probably try to get the guy down to $3000

That sounds fair, since the milage is pretty high and such.

Unless it's REALLY bad miata. Then $2995

The floor on clean, running Miatas has been 3K for a decade now. $3500 is a fair price for that listing, although you can probably talk him/her down a bit.

Don't buy a Miata.

If it has a decent radiator, (that isn't brown and ready to fail) doesn't leak and generally runs well, then both parties should be okay with 3100-3200 dollars for that one.

If it's truly as clean as they say with good service history and no soon looming service items, I'd do maybe 3k.

Really, look for a Miata in the $4-5k range. That gets you one with clean paint, good service history, decent mileage, maybe a hardtop(it's worth $1k by itself), etc.

I know this answer. The way you price an NA Miata is as follows:

1.) Pick a number at random between $2500 and $5000.
2.)Disregard any other factor that could influence the price.
3.) ...
4.) Profit? Maybe?

This is relevant to my interests. Trolling miata forums and craigslist here in the DMV area for one right now.

Depends on maintenance and rust. Someone's clean condition is most likely very different than mine. Top notch, needs nothing ~$3,000 (timing belt, water pump, tires, shocks, maintenance records, no rust). Issues... start subtracting from there. I love my '95 with 54k miles. ;)

Local market conditions make a difference (I'm in Phoenix), but I paid less than that 3 years ago for a '91 with 122,000 miles PLUS an OEM hardtop, from the original owner with all service records. I see them on Phoenix Craigslist under $3k often. If it's the original owner with good service records, it may be worth a talk, but still talk him down.
